Hvar is an island on the Adriatic Sea off the Croatian coast. It is located between the famous Dalmatian cities dubrovnik map and split hotel.
Hvar has a length of 67.5 km and a maximum width of 10.6 km and comes to an area of
297.37 km ².

Journey to the island of Hvar
A ferry commutes every 2 hours between Split and Stari Grad . You can take it for 4.50 € per person and 29 € per vehicle between 8:30 clock and 20:30 clock. The ferries need to drive only 30 minutes from Drvenik to Sucuraj. However, if you decide to use the connection Split – Hvar – Vela has only twice a day the opportunity for crossing and you can not take along a car.
A catamaran also runs between Split and Hvar, the other cities on the island are irregularly approached.
Who is well hardy and a bit short of money, should travel during the winter to Hvar: On days with snow or temperatures below the freezing-point you can eat and sleep in many hotels for free. However, such an unfriendly climate is rarely in line – who wants to travel to the island because of this reason needs very much “luck”.
Climate
The summers on the island of Hvar are very dry, warm and long. The only refreshments during days and nights, are the wind Mistral and Tramontane. The winters are mild and short, temperatures below 0 ° C are really a rarity. There are many windy days in winter (Jugo - a south wind and Burra - a north wind), and rare rainy days and it snows only once in 10 years.
You can expect a bathing season in the sea from May to October, more athletic natures even longer. The temperature in January is at an average of 8.4 degrees C . The maximum temperatures never exceed the critical temperature of compatibility for agricultural crops ( the absolutly maximum was 37 C in 1935)
Hvar, or also called”Adriatic Madeira “, has the longest insolation on the Adriatic, with 2,715 hours of sunshine yearly.
Beaches
The beaches on the island are mostly made up of stone and pebble and are located in bays, surrounded by pine woods and scrub. Natural sandy beaches are mostly on the north side of the island hvar apartments.
