I have to admit that I am somewhat lucky in employment, some may even go as far as to say totally spawny. I have spent the majority of my working years swanking my way from hotel to restaurant and bar, then back to a wonderful boutique boudoir and getting paid for it. It started when I was a junior reporter for a local paper and had to interview councillors and upstanding members of the community in places that reflected their importance, all in the name of them getting a good write up. I think they figured that if we were in a posh cocktail bar and bought a bottle of champagne, then I would be impressed. And in all fairness, I was, but it wasn’t enough to swing an interview. From here I went on to work for a music magazine, and my word, the stakes were upped considerably. The bigger the name, the better the interview venue. This time though, it wasn’t just bars, it was hotel lounges and ridiculous restaurants, and that is when I got the bug. I became more interested in the venues that I was meeting people in than the people themselves. The architecture, the decor, the food and speciality cocktails; whether they had a health spa or an enchanted woodland inhabited by fairies became more of a preoccupation than my research on the interviewee. The crux came when I realised my write-ups were reading more like a venue review than a personality breakdown of a celebrity. That is when I decided to make a career detour.
I am now a venue finder, and spend my working days doing much what I did before, but without the interview bit. My job is to source the ideal location that is of a certain quality and calibre to meet clients requirements. Sometimes this takes me back into the realm of the entertainment industry, but mostly it is for big businesses that want to impress clients at a conference. It is often my job to locate a place that not only has all the conference facilities that corporate clients require, but enough room with enough panache to comfortably accommodate up to five hundred people. For the really big guys, especially for conferences that last several days, it is essential to have all the luxury of a five star hotel. A typical day’s work will entail travelling to a venue by public transport as this is the first step in assessing the suitability; if a place is too hard to get to, it won’t make it to my shortlist. For restaurants, bars and conference venues I will spend the day checking the facilities and grade their suitability for various clients. I will assess the quality of the food and drink on offer and well as the variety; I will endeavour to use every service that is on offer and inspect the establishment from top to bottom.
In the case of venue finding for hotels, I will stay at least a night and a day and harass the concierge to within an inch of his or her life, lean heavily on room service and undertake the backbreaking chore of sampling any personal service from personal massage to full beauty makeover. My journalistic tendencies work well in this job, there is no way of sweetening me up with a welcome basket of champagne and fresh fruit, I will give my honest opinion in each review I write as a venue finder, but I guess that’s just one of the many perks of this unusual job! Finding a venue for an event is an exciting task. Whether it is for a wedding, wake or birthday party, choosing somewhere that has the right atmosphere for the occasion is challenging, and the rewards of getting it right are immense. Whether it is for a client, a friend or for yourself, doing the rounds and finding out just what is out there is definitely a job worth doing. Some of my favourite venues have been found by accident, whilst out having a drink with some friends, and others have been a major mission to find the perfect place. Tip 1: Always keep your eyes and your mind open.
No matter what you are doing or where you are going, there is a potential venue in every place that you visit. As a professional venue finder, I am asked to find locations for films, conferences, parties, and charity events as well as all the other usual celebrations that happen throughout the year. Each cafe, museum, pub, office and open public space can be commandeered for the right price. Peoples homes are often an overlooked source for venues. If you find yourself admiring the stunning light, architecture, decor or layout of someone’s home or garden you can guarantee that it will be a perfect venue for someone’s event.
Tip 2: Try out every facility.
Being a venue finder, I have to get it right first time for a client, and there is no way I can overlook a thing. This means that for each venue I try all the facilities and services to ensure they are up to the high standards my clients expect. Each event is unique, and for my clients, it is the only time that event will happen and there are no second takes in this business. If the venue is a hotel, I will book myself in for as long as is needed to make sure I have personally tried and tested everything from the complimentary soap to the PA system. This is where the job really has perks, although it would be impossible to try everything on the menu, I have to make sure I sample a fair proportion of what is on offer. Tip 3: Get plenty of photos.
Part of being a successful venue finder is being able to express to a client why a particular venue is ideal, and try and convey your own personal excitement. I find that the best way to do this is to take plenty of photos of the things that will impress your client and show why the venue is ideal. Although venue brochures are useful, you need to sell a place on a particular aspect, something that maybe the brochure doesn’t include. If you find that some venues are a great all-rounder, it would be useful to create a catalogue of images that can be used for a number of clients.
Tip 4: Present a stunning portfolio.
The portfolio presented to a client is reflection of the skill and attention to detail that is necessary in the job. Presenting a shoddy portfolio or missing an important aspect of the brief will see you losing a client to a different venue finder. Holiday travels are usually spent with your loved ones. Whether it’s with family or friends, the holidays always becomes the perfect season to travel and bond together as a group. This is especially true for Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter. During the summer months, families also love to go around the country or the globe during Labor Day or the Fourth of July.
If you plan to travel around during the summer, we encourage you considet some factors before you make final arrangements for your vacation spot. First of all, think about the bulk of travelers on the road. Note that just like you, there are probably hundreds of other groups who will hit the road and head off to the most popular travel locations. If you plan to make reservations on a famous spot, get yourself ready about the possible big crowd.
In most parts of the world, summer is the season when the cloud shines brightly and people love to play outdoors and enjoy the sun and the beach. Given this, the beach becomes the most common summer destination for a lot of travellers. If you want to visit the beaches in the United States, you can try Daytona Beach, Virgina Beach or the South Beach. If you want to explore you Europe, you can choose from either St. Tropez, cannes, Costa Smeralda and Marbella.
Before you pick your destination, make sure that you keep in mind what you want and what you need from your vacation. For instance, if you are looking for a romantic getaway, maybe you delete “the beach” from your target list. Large crowds and your lack of privacy might just ruin your mood and your entire vacation.
The beach can easily be considered as a popular destination; however, bear in mind that they are not your only options for the summer holiday. Other eager travelers also love the idea of picnics and barbecue parties. And because of this, public campgrounds and parks have been a popular summer spot as well. If you want to camp out, engage in outdoor activities and enjoy grilling, you might consider camping for your getaway.
Many people enjoy outdoor camping for the privacy that it offers. You can find campgrounds in largely landscaped areas. Large bushes and trees also help in giving you the privacy you need. You can also found campgrounds in secluded beaches and mountains. Some state or national parks allow camping as well. They also offer you a variety of camping equipments and facilities like laundromats, general stores and even game rooms!
To most travelers, outdoor camping is usually perceived as sleeping inside your tent. Tents may be a very common equipment for camping but these days, RVs are also gaining its popularity. If you do not have one, you can simply rent one. Some locations offer RVs for rent. This is especially perfect if you and your family enjoy a road trip throughout Europe or America. You may also consider a look at last minute all inclusive cruise vacations too.
Beaches and campgrounds maybe very famous destinations for the summer. However, in order for you to fully enjoy the season, it is highly encouraged that you think very creatively and try something new. Other options would include an amusement park, the zoo or a museum.
